Mwalwanda is a graduate of the University of Malawi, where he obtained a Bachelor of Social Science Degree; University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, Canada, where he obtained a Masters Degree in Economics ; and University of Toronto, Ontario Canada, where he obtained a Ph.D. , with emphasis on International Trade and International Finance.
Professionally, Cornelius is a trade and development economist, as well as central banker with extensive knowledge of international finance and problems of structural adjustment of African economies.
