Rural Finance
Promoting development in rural Malawi will not only require financial support provided by traditional financial institutions such as banks, These programmes will be designed so as to:
Support the practice of microfinance for the poor
Support better communications and the flow of information to remote areas.
Locate capital markets to bring new, private sector funds to microfinance institutions.
Lead the way in providing technological solutions to increase effectiveness and best
practice within the microfinance industry.

The Grameen Foundation’s programmes are designed to:
As already indicated, a range of economic activities are possible in Karonga Central Constituency, but for a large section of the population access to finance and credit will remain one of the most important factors inhibiting their effective participation in the country’s production process. Should Dr. Mwalwanda be elected he will work tirelessly with the Malawi Government and external donors to try and bring some of these successful financial practices to finance Karonga’s economy, and Malawi in general. There is an urgent need to bring innovative ways of rural financing in order to improve productivity in rural areas and diversify the economic base. We will work to find ways of inviting the Grameen Bank and SKS Microfinance to work with us in order to adapt their programmes and projects to our local conditions in Malawi.
