The Malawi Government intends to work closely with the private sector to strategically diversify tourism products in Malawi, and identify niche opportunities. Karonga Central Constituency has the potential to participate in the development of eco-tourism in Malawi, both because of its proximity to Lake Malawi and to the hills of the Nyika Plateau. As indicated, with nearly 1,000 species of tropical fish, Malawi offers a unique attraction for tourists, in terms of scuba diving and lake activities, such as boating and sailing. Karonga Central Constituency has some very underdeveloped and undeveloped beach areas on the lake. These can be developed into attractive tourist resorts. The mountain ranges to the west offer a unique environment for hiking and exploration.
