Honourable Dr. Cornelius T. Mwalwanda was recently elected "Member of Parliament" of Malawi National Assembly to represent Karonga Central Constituency and is also "Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee" on "Commerce, Industry and Tourism".He is a graduate of the University of Malawi, where he obtained a Bachelor of Social Science; University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, Canada, where he obtained a Masters Degree in Economics; and University of Toronto, Ontario Canada, where he obtained a Ph.D., with emphasis on International Trade and International Finance.

His professional experience has spanned several continents, he has served as Director of Research and Statistics, Deputy General Manager for Economic Services of the Central Reserve Bank of Malawi; Deputy Comptroller of Statutory Bodies for the Malawi Government; Officer-in-Charge of the Economic and Social Policy Division (ESPD) and Chief of the Monetary and Financial Relations Section in the Trade and Development Finance Division in Ethiopia; and Head of the Liaison Office of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in Geneva. He has also served as a Board of Director for several public enterprises in Malawi and Ethiopia, and as a member of the Advisory Board of the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC).

His work experience has offered him the opportunity to interact closely with government officials within and outside of Africa, including officials of multilateral organizations and international financial institutions, such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the World Trade Organization and the African Development Bank. He has made important contributions in delivering technical assistance to Malawi and many other African countries in the areas of multilateral trade negotiations, development finance, debt management and investment.
